Day 1. ARRIVE LIMA: upon arrival in Lima you will be met and
transferred to your hotel in the lively district of Miraflores.
Day 2. LIMA/CUSCO: early morning flight to the capital of the
Incas, Cusco. You will be met and transferred to your hotel. Free afternoon
to relax in Cusco and adjust to the altitude.
Day 3. CUSCO: free day in Cusco, Peru's fourth largest city. An
oportunity for you to explore the attractions of this lively Mecca on
your own. A chance to try local cuisine and shop around.
Day 4/9. MOLLEPATA, SALKANTAY, MACHUPICCHU: 4th day: early
breakfast, then by bus across the high pampa, down the old Inca road,
stopping at a local market en route to Mollepata (2,700 metres)
collecting pack animals and ascent to the first campsite at Soraypampa
(3,750m). Here you have magnificent views of Salkantay and Humantay.
5th day: a long steep ascent toward the high Andes pass at 4,800 meters.
Camp that day at 3,900 metres between the peaks of Mts. Salkantay
(6,271m), Palcay (5,700m) and Nevada Rayusca (5,350m). 6th
day: a gentle hike down to our next camp site at Huayllabamba
(3,000 metres).
7th day: before climbing to Warmihuañasca Pass (4,200m), our
second high Andes pass, we hike through three ecological zones with great
views. After crossing the pass we descend to our camp in the river meadows
of Pacaymayu (3,500m). 8th day: today we climb to Runkuracay Pass
(3,900m) through the hewn rock tunnel to Phuyupatamarca (city above
the clouds) for fabulous views of the sacred mountain Apu Salkantay
(6,271m). Then its downhill to our camp at Wiñawayna (2,650m) where
we`ll see the terraces and the impressive ruins that fill the steep valley.
9th day: hike to Machupicchu (2,400m) and through the sun-gate
to witness the sunrise over the lost city before the crowds arrive from
Cusco by train. Return to Cusco by train in the early evening.
Day 10. SACRED VALLEY: full day tour with a local guide visiting
Pisac, a typical Indian market and the ruins above the town. After
lunch on to Ollantaytambo exploring the terraces and ruins in the
town. Returning to Cusco late afternoon.
Day 11. CUSCO/LIMA: morning flight to Lima, transferring to your
hotel. Afternoon tour visiting the Gold Museum, a great collection
of pre-Columbian gold jewellery and an evening to relax in Peru's capital
city.
Day 12. DEPARTURE LIMA: transfer out to the airport for your
flight home. End of tour.
