Day 1. ARRIVE LIMA: upon arrival in Lima you will be met and transferred
to your hotel in the lovely district of Miraflores.
Day 2. LIMA/AREQUIPA: early morning flight, met and transferred
to your hotel. Free day to relax in Arequipa.
Day 3/4. COLCA CANYON: 3rd day: early morning breakfast
and departure by bus to Chivay passing through Yura to Pampa Caņahuas
where you will see herds of vicuņas later through Viscachani,
the swampy area of keen interest to birdwatchers, crossing the high Patapampa
Pass (4,900m) with a magnificent view of the volcanic range. Following
lunch you have a free day to explore the town, local market and take a
dip in the thermal pools.
4th day: a very early start will take you to Cruz del Condor
where you will have a chance to wait for the fabulous condors as they
rise on the morning thermals out of the deepest canyon in the world. Returning
back to Chivay your guide will explain the history and geography of the
area. You will also see ancient tombs hanging high on the cliffs, stop
overlooking the Mysterious Lakes, pass the villages of Pinchollo,
Maca, Achoma and Yanque before returning to Arequipa.
Day 5. AREQUIPA/JULIACA/PUNO: flight to Juliaca where you will
be met and transferred to your hotel in Puno. A free afternoon ( an optional
tour to the huge tombs at Sillustani is highly recommended).
Day 6/7. UROS/AMANTANI/TAQUILE ISLANDS: after breakfast you will
be transferred to the port, boarding a boat that will take you, first,
to the famous Uros Islands. After a brief stop the boat will continue
on to Amantani Island where you will have a guided tour to points
of interest on the island before returning to your accommodation with
local Aymara families sharing with them their customs and traditions.
The following day you will be taken to Taquile Island and the chance
to explore this unique paradise until lunch, then returning to Puno in
the afternoon.
Day 8. TRAIN PUNO/CUSCO: full day train trip to Cusco, a scenic
ride through the countryside and mountains, across La Raya Pass
(4,300m) and through the agricultural fields descending into the Cusco
Valley. On arrival, an evening transfer to your hotel.
Day 9. MACHU PICCHU: very early start, leaving your hotel at 5.30am
transferring to the station for the train to Aguas Calientes, arriving
at 9.30am. Bus from station to Machu Picchu, a very informative
tour with a local guide. Return to Aguas Calientes by bus. Train departs
at 3 p.m., arriving back in Cusco in the early evening.
Day 10. CUSCO/SACRED VALLEY: full day tour with a local guide
visiting Pisac, a typical Indian market and the ruins above the
town. After lunch on to Ollantaytambo exploring the terraces and
ruins in the town. Returning to Cusco late afternoon.
Day 11. CUSCO/LIMA: midmorning flight. Transfer to your hotel.
free afternoon in Peru's capital city.
Day 12. LIMA: visit the Gold Museum, a great collection
of pre-Columbian jewellery and the Archaeological & Anthropology Museum
with the largest collection of pre-Inca and Incan artefacts. These are
the best museums in Peru.
Day 13. DEPART LIMA: transfer out to the airport. End of tour.
