Day 1. ARRIVE LIMA: upon arrival in Lima you will be met and transferred
to your hotel in the fashionable district of Miraflores.
Day 2. LIMA/CUSCO: you take an early morning flight to the capital
of the Incas, Cusco. Transfer to your hotel. Free day to relax in Cusco
and adjust to the altitude.
Day 3. CUSCO: free morning in Cusco, Peru's fourth largest city,
a time for you to explore the attractions of this lovely city on your
own. An afternoon sightseeing tour taking in the colonial churches, then
visiting the Incan sites just outside the city; Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo,
Pucapucara and Tambomachay.
Day 4/8. CUSCO/MOLLEPATA/SORAY: 4th day: after an early breakfast,
our transport takes you across the high pampa to Mollepata (2,700m)
where we collect our pack animals and start a gentle ascent to Soraypampa
(3,750m) and our first campsite.
5th day: hike to SORAY / HUAYRACMACHAY, a four hour ascent
of nearly 1,000 metres to Abra Humantay Pass (4,550m). We`ll be
walking in the shadow of Mt. Humantay (5,900m) and Apu Salkantay
(6,271m), one of the two most sacred mountains in the Andes. After admiring
some stunning scenery we descend to Huayracmachay (3,750m), our
second camp. 6th day: trek to HUAYRACMACHAY/ WIÑAYPOCO,
This is an easier day, descending all the way to Wiñaypoco (2,500m).
We stop at Collpapampa, a confluence of two rivers, here we have
the option of a hot bath in the natural thermal springs. From this point
you are in a high jungle environment with the accompanying flora and fauna.
7th day: trek to WIÑAYPOCO/LLACTAPATA via Abra Aobamba
Pass (2,800m a difficult climb which by passes Santa Teresa
because of a large landslide). The descent is short and we camp just below
the pass.
8th day: trek to LLACTAPATA / AGUAS CALIENTES, A two hour
descent takes us to the Hydroelectric station (1,850m) on the Urubamba
River. Here we cross a water diversion channel by means of a suspended
cradle. We catch the train to Aguas Calientes and the luxury of a hotel
and restaurants. Day 9. MACHUPICCHU: The bus takes you to Machupicchu
at 6am. Here in the Lost City of the Inca you experience the magical sunrise.
There is a full guided tour and time to explore on your own, or, if
you wish, to climb the adjacent peak of Huaynapicchu for magnificent
views of the famous ruins. Returning to Aguas Calientes, you have the
choice of methods (train, various classes, or helicopter, for a different
perspective) by which to return down the Urubamba Valley to Cusco.
Day 10. CUSCO: free day in Cusco, a chance to relax after your
Inca Trail experience.
Day 11. CUSCO/LIMA: morning flight to Lima, transferring to your
hotel. Afternoon tour visiting the Gold Museum, a great collection
of pre-Columbian gold jewellery and an evening to relax in Peru's capital
city.
Day 12. DEPART LIMA: transfer out to the airport for your flight
home. End of tour.
